The Department of Archives and History is responsible for the diffusion of knowledge in reference to the history of the state and for the maintenance of a reference collection for the use of state officials and the public (Ala. Code, 41-6-2 [1975]). In order to partially fulfill this obligation, the department maintains books and pamphlets for use in the library as reference resources. Until 1988, these materials were accessioned into the permanent collections of the Archives. This series consists of registers documenting the receipt or purchase of books and pamphlets into the department's reference collections. Information in this series includes date, name of book/pamphlet, donor/seller, and a note indicating whether the item was deacessioned and the date. This series also includes the accessions of several public and private records.
